Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital continues to rack up awards and accolades in the medical community.

This time, the facility was listed on Modern Healthcare Magazine's run-down of the best medical centers to work for. The magazine — which is a highly reputable medical journal — published its list of the top 100 hospitals and medical suppliers recently. RPMH not only cracked the top 100, they were ranked No. 24 out of all the facilities in America, beating out notable places such as Duke's Raleigh Medical Center in North Carolina and the Children's Hospital of Omaha, Neb.

Modern Healthcare magazine paired up with Best Companies Group, a Pennsylvania-based firm that determines the best companies to work for nation-wide. Fawn Lopez, Publisher of Modern Healthcare offers her thoughts on the importance of the findings, "The healthcare environment today and in the future is characterized not just by shrinking margins, increasing regulations, new technologies, increasing consumerism patient empowerment, autonomy and competition; but also by staffing shortage challenges and a heightened appreciation for the quality of the workplace," she said.

"Modern Healthcare's "Best places to work in healthcare" program identifies and recognizes healthcare organizations that have successfully built workplace excellence annd enabled employees to perform at their optimal level," added Lopez.

Rolling Plains was first notified in September that it was among the top 100 in its field, Then, on October 28, the final results were released and it was announced that RPMH was ranked 24th on the list.

Hospital Administrator Tom Kennedy was pleased with the recognition RPMH received saying, " We were elated. I'm very proud of the hospital employees. This hospital has an exceptionally low turnover rate, in the 20 years I've been here, most of the department heads are still the same."

Kennedy also feels that the dedication of the staff is an important part of their success stating, "It increases morale, we're all in this together. We have an excellent medical staff, and they are very supportive of the hospital as a whole, many medical staffs could have been indifferent to the award."

Although Modern Healthcare printed the list, Kennedy, as well as Gay Nell Cherry; Human Resource Director for RPMH thank the employees of RPMH above all else for helping to achieve its credibility in the medical field. Kennedy added, "It is a demonstrated fact, research has shown that hospital employees who feel they are treated fairly at their job provide superior patient care."
