I’m not the best at being wordy, so this may not come out exactly how I intend, but you know me well enough to know this is coming straight from the heart.
I know you may have been flooded with recognitions from this past weekend’s “Snowmageddon,” but I didn’t feel right not sharing my perspective, having been here from beginning to end on the day shift.
The number of staff who prepared ahead of time and made plans to stay at the hospital rather than call in due to the weather was amazing. Administration and housekeeping were incredibly accommodating and flexible with room turnover, top tier, but no surprise from our people. Managers and admin made sure employees had food and the comforts they needed while staying here. We even had staff opening their homes and making trips into town to bring warm meals.
We may be fragile little Texans, and events like this can really shake us, but as always, we came together, and I love us for that.
That said, the real MVP I want to highlight is Charles Rice.
When I say this man went above and beyond, it’s an understatement. He patrolled the parking lots to keep an eye on staff vehicles, started cars early so they’d be ready after shifts, and picked us up at the sliding doors to shuttle us in groups to our vehicles.
Knowing he was there, helping with something so simple, yet so important during a time like that, meant everything. I’ve seen too much not to believe he has a heart of gold.
