National Hospital Week Puts Spotlight on People

RPMH celebrates hospital week with a full slate of events.

A hospital is more than a place where people go to heal, it is a part of thecommunity that fosters health and represents hope. From providing treatment andcomfort to the sick, to welcoming new life into the world, hospitals arecentral to a healthy and optimistic community. That is the message organizersare touting with the 2022 National Hospital Week theme, “We Are Healthcare”.

The event theme is the centerpiece of a promotional campaign aimed at uniting healthcare facilities across the country during the May 8-14, 2022, celebration.  “National Hospital Week, first and foremost, is a celebration of people,” Doug Dippel, CEO of Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital said. “We’re extremely proud of each member of our staff and we recognize the key role they play in extending a sense of trust to our patients and our communities.”

National Hospital Day was established in the year 1921 as an attempt to inspire community members to support hospitals after the Spanish flu outbreak in 1918. In 1953, National Hospital Day changed to National Hospital Week. The celebration, launched in Chicago, succeeded in promoting trust and goodwill among members of the public and eventually spread to facilities across the country.

The hospital has a full slate of events planned to include a proclamation from the mayor declaring National Hospital Week, a Service Awards Ceremony, and an employee luncheon. This year two will receive 35-year pins: Tony Rosas and Sylvia Salazar, both long time employees of the Environmental Services Department. Rhonda Guelker and Mickey McCann will receive 30-year pins and Donis McCluskey will receive a 25-year pin. In all, forty employees will be receiving service pins this year on Thursday, May 12 at 2:00 PM.
